Art at ACERO Fuentes Elementary!

The Art Room at Fuentes Elementary is a warm-colorful place where all students are free to express themselves creatively and have fun! Art Education at Fuentes is far more than just "coloring" time. Students are learning valuable skills to help them be successful both inside and outside of the school environment. In addition to practicing drawing and painting, students are learning how to problem solve, make observations, express their ideas effectively, and respect the ideas and cultures of others.

When you visit Fuentes and walk around the school, you will notice many examples of student art displayed. The Fuentes community is proud of our talented artists of all ages, but more than just beautiful decorations- student art at Fuentes represents our entire staff's commitment to nurturing the whole child- we believe as a school community that it is essential for students to share their voices with one another, and take pride in all areas of their education, including the arts.

Meet Ms. Hansen

Picture
Hello! I'm Caitlin Hansen, the Art Teacher at Fuentes! I have been teaching at Fuentes for 9 years! I have a Bachelor's of Fine Art in Theatre and Art History from DePaul University, and a Master's in Elementary Education from DePaul too! I live on the North side of Chicago (go Cubs!), and I love traveling, playing board games with my family, and riding my blue bicycle to the lake! I think art is the best because it allows all of us the freedom to express what's going on in our minds in creative ways- and it helps us communicate with, and understand one another. I believe creativity is one of the most valuable tools any student can attain- and I've worked very hard to make sure that my students learn that with a little imagination and hard work- anything is possible!

I've shared some of my favorite things below....what are your favorites?

2020-2021 Goal

During the 2020-2021 school year we are focusing on how we can work together to build a community of creative and driven thinkers, and life-long artists. I want to elevate the importance of student voice and give my students the tools to express their ideas and opinions creatively through art. I also want to  highlight the importance of anti-racism within the art curriculum and am working to include lessons and projects that represent a wide variety of artists and communities and their positive impact on the art world.
